The diverse range of landscape types represented in this region are subjected to varying development pressures including further metropolitan expansion, the subdivision of agricultural land for urban and rural residential purposes the clearing of timbered land; inappropriate developments, particularly along the main travel corridors. To assist in the future planning of this important region the State government has established a regional planning body – the Upper Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges Authority (UYVDRA) – under its own Act to ‘enable increased protection for the special features and character of the region to provide for the implementation of Statements of Planning Policy … which relate to the region’.
