At the corner shop people meet and talk, exchange news and views. The proprietor knows you by face or name. You meet your neighbours. You can reply on the corner shop. It is always a safe haven. Social values – the meanings and experiences embodied in a place, in its fabric or in a community’s memory – are beginning to be recognised, along with the more traditional heritage values of aesthetics, history, architecture (etc).
