Getty Modern: teaching about community connections

Development of a teaching module on ‘Community Connections, Heritage Values and the Intangible: Modern and Universal’ for the international Modern Architecture Conservation Course offered by the Getty Conservation Insitute in 2023 and reprised in 2025. The module consists of a video lecture, detailed notes and readings, and participation in a live component with participants.

Whittlesea Aboriginal Cultural Landscape: Cultural Values Review

Working with the City of Whittlesea and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Traditional Owners (WWCHAC), Chris Johnston completed a ‘cultural values review’ designed to shape an approach to understanding the cultural landscape of the City of Whittlesea from an Aboriginal perspective. Project examples from Whittlesea, greater Melbourne and overseas were examined, and discussions held with Elders at each stage, resulting in recommendations to the City of Whittlesea. A second component outlined a framework to guide to the development of a narrative or narratives about Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung history, connections, Country and their significance.
