Post conservation works - the reopening! [C. Johnston]

The former Warburton Mechanics Institute is not only one of the oldest remaining buildings in the Upper Yarra Valley but is also a much-loved centre for local community activity. Context developed an effective conservation management plan through community consultation and by taking into account the building’s unique historical significance and current condition. The Plan provided a careful analysis of conservation priorities with detailed costings to provide a workable and practical framework to manage the building into the future.

In 2005 Context ran a series of consultation forums commissioned by the Yarra Ranges Shire and the local community implementation committee to clarify the process, timing and values to be considered in the redevelopment of the Mechanics Institute.
