Southbank boardwalk: demolition underway [historical image]

Context prepared a social significance assessment of the Board Walk complex, part of the Expo 88 site that had been redeveloped as South Bank. The assessment for the Queensland Heritage Council involved reviewing historical and contemporary information, including community surveys and consultation related to the Board Walk and South Bank more generally. The report concluded that there was strong evidence of enduring social significance, and recommended further investigation. Today only one feature survives from Expo 88 – the Nepalese Peace Pagoda.
