Context Pty Ltd, 2010. Revitalising Central Dandenong Place Naming Strategy. Report prepared for VicUrban and the City of Greater Dandenong.

Themes emerging from consultation session

Bringing new place names into a locality that has a long and complex history needs to be underpinned by good research and by consultation. Place names need to be practical, to tell the story of the place and to engage peoples’ interest. Place naming is also guided by State legislation and guidelines and in this case, by a City of Greater Dandenong code of practice.
The Strategy developed by Context established key guiding principles, offered a framework of storylines and narratives from which place names could be created, and a database with over 240 potential names. It set the framework for introduction of new place names for public spaces and thoroughfares within the Central Dandenong revitalisation area that was the focus of initiatives by the City of Greater Dandenong and VicUrban.
