A Heritage Landscape Management Framework for the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park needed to recognise outstanding cultural landscape relating to the 19th century gold rushes and later mining activities. The Framework took a landscape rather than an individual site-based approach to the Park, defining 3 geographic constellation areas, each with a main gateway site from which key sites and more remote landscapes could be accessed. Community enaggement was a key part of the project and included site visits, meetings and an online survey to engage with the wider community. The Heritage Landscape Management Framework updates the previous Heritage Action Plan 2002 and will be used to direct future management action for the benefit of Park visitors and to suppport the ongoing conservation of this significant landscape.
