The Tarkine encompasses wild coastlines, vast rolling buttongrass plains and vast swathes of temperate rainforest in north-western Tasmania. Context was asked to assess its aesthetic values as a contribution towards a national heritage values assessment being undertaken by the Australian Heritage Council.
Our analysis included examining community values studies, tourism materials, content analysis of the work of artists and photographers, and a series of phone interviews with experience and knowledge of the Tarkine, including artists, scientists and researchers, conservationists and tourism.
The report concluded that the Tarkine met the threshold for outstanding value to the nation under the NHL aesthetics criterion. [Source: Context Pty Ltd]
