Ladies Rose Garden, Parliament House Gardens, Canberra [Context Pty Ltd]

Context, working collaboratively Duncan Marshall, prepared a draft Heritage Management Plan for the Senate and House of Representatives Gardens that form part of the Old Parliament House precinct. Much of the Garden’s fabric had been reconstructed in the late 1990s. The plan considered the significance of the Gardens subsequent to extensive redesign and reconstruction works. Key elements of Context’s work included analysis of the garden design and plantings, consideration of social significance and attachments to place and development of policies to guide the ongoing management of the gardens. In 2015, Context was commissioned to finalise the 2007 draft HMP, requiring substantial revision because of changes to the gardens. The 2015 project included signficance assessements of the four quadrants in each of the Senate and House of Representatives Gardens as well as the elements of each precinct including the trees.
