Intangible and invisible: appreciating community connections and values

The invisible community connections to place can trip us up in our work as heritage professionals. How can we understand these connections and the community-held values that arise from them? And what about intangible cultural heritage – traditions, knowledge, stories, rituals (etc) – in relation to place-based practice?

The workshop will explore these questions with participants, considering the guidance used in New Zealand and Australia, and what else we might need to guide our practice. It will challenge us to consider the many ways that we each experience place, connecting the tangible attributes of a place to the intangible.
